5. After you've selected a filename, click Start Master Image. The program displays a dialog box that summarizes the program's progress in creating the CD image file.

6. After X-CD-Roast has generated a CD image file, click Write Image to display the Write Image window shown in Figure 7.10. If necessary, select the image file you want to write using the image file selector.

Chapter 7

8. When X-CD-Roast has finished writing the disk, you can use the Verify burned Img. button to check the disc against the image file on your hard disk. If you have a CD-ROM drive in addition to a recordable drive, you can configure X-CD-Roast to use the CD-ROM drive as the source for verification operations, so you might need to swap the disc into the other drive. Because modern CD-ROM drives are faster than modern CD-R and CD-RW drives, using the CD-ROM drive is generally faster than using the recordable drive.

X-CD-Roast contains many additional options I've not covered here. Most of its features are reasonably clear, so if you know what you want to do, browsing its menus should turn up the 7

appropriate option. As of version 0.96e, however, X-CD-Roast does not support DAO recording, so that's one option you won't find on its menu. Because DAO support has been added to T the underlying cdrecord, it's likely to turn up in X-CD-Roast eventually, though. X-CD-Roast g also has yet to support creating bootable CDs, although mkisofs contains this functionality. D
