Memory

All motherboards include some sort of memory support. The main memory sockets on most motherboards are dual inline memory module (DIMM) sockets, shown in Figure 2.16. Older motherboards may include single inline memory module (SIMM) sockets, as well as, or instead of, DIMM sockets. Some very recent motherboards use Rambus inline memory modules (RIMMs), which look much like DIMMs. Chapter 3 discusses memory in more detail.
