Using XCDRoast

If you prefer to avoid command-line tools, you can use a GUI front-end to these programs, such as X-CD-Roast (http://www.fh-muenchen.de/home/ze/rz/services/projects/ xcdroast/e_overview.html) or BurnIt (http://sunsite.auc.dk/BurnIT/). These programs can help in the CD-creation process by obviating the need to remember commands, particularly those relating to obscure options. As an example, consider X-CD-Roast. After configuring X-CD-Roast for your system by letting it detect your CD-ROM and CD-R or CD-RW devices, you can create a data CD by following these steps:

1. From the main X-CD-Roast screen, click Master CD. This produces the Master From/To window, shown in Figure 7.7.

2. In the directory selection list, locate the directory you want to use as the base of your CD. Be sure it's listed in the Directory with data to master field.

3. Click the Set Image-Type button to get the Set Image Type window shown in Figure 7.8. You can set filesystem creation options here, such as whether to use Rock Ridge, Joliet, or both.

4. Click the Master Image button to get the Master Image window, shown in Figure 7.9. You can change the name of the image file you want to create, or, if you've configured X-CD-Roast to use a partition for this purpose, tell it to use that partition.
