Meaning

-l hostnames

Specifies another configuration file to use instead of syslog.conf. Forwards messages received by other hosts.

Logs messages with simple hostname rather than with fully qualified domain name. Multiple names are separated with a colon.

Specifies the time between two marked lines; the default value is 20

-r

Used to allow receipt of network messages.

Real World ^ote many distributions ship without the - r switch on sy si ogd. By default you cannot use them as network-logging servers.
