Building Kernel Modules

To build kernel modules, you type a single command: make modules. Like the kernel compilation process proper, this command runs a series of gcc commands to compile the kernel modules. Unlike the main kernel compilation, though, the result is a series of module files rather than a single kernel file. The next section, "Installing a Kernel," describes how to install these module files. Making modules is likely to take about as long as making the kernel itself, although the details depend on how many features you've configured to compile into modules, versus into the kernel proper.
