Pointing to an External Time Source

Although you can operate NTP locally without referring to an external time source, the usual means of operation is to synchronize your local network's time to that of an outside time signal that's known to be accurate—that is, a veridical time source. Doing so requires understanding a bit about how NTP and various veridical time sources operate. You must then locate an external time source, configure one of your local computers to use it, and test NTP operation on that system.
