Follow normal physical security procedures. Since RFID tags can only be read at short ranges, the primary preventative measure for this type of attack is to keep the asset secure physically. Barriers—such as metal sheeting—can also add to the security of these tagged assets, since these barriers interfere with the transmission of radio frequencies. However, an attacker using a higher-powered transmitter will continue to be successful in reading these tags, even if the tags are shielded.
