Wireless Fingerprinting

A relatively new development in wireless security is the area of wireless fingerprinting. Although you can attempt to guess the make and model of a wireless device using the client's hardware MAC address, MAC addresses can be easily modified or spoofed by anyone. Thus, being able to fingerprint these wireless devices remotely could prove very useful from both an audit perspective and in aiding in the identification of unauthorized wireless devices on a wireless network. One early example of a wireless fingerprinting tool is jc-duration-printer from Johnny Cache.
