Checking the Configuration

After tuning configuration files, you should make sure they work. The first task you need to perform is running the apache2ctl command. This command helps you test your configuration. To do this, run apache2ctl configtest. If everything is OK, the command will tell you; if it is not, it tells you as well.

After verifying that everything is OK, you need to activate the changes. You can do this by running the rcapache2 reload command. This command will just activate the changes you've made. That is, it will not unload and reload the Apache web server. Sometimes, however, this just isn't enough, and you need to restart the Apache server anyway. In that case, use rcapache2 restart.
