If your computer uses IDE devices such as a hard drive or a CD drive, enabling DMA access will greatly enhance the access times for the selected devices. By default, the option DMA On is set for all IDE devices. In case this doesn't work well, select any of the other options that are available, and make sure this gives a better performance for the selected IDE device. Check Chapter 31 for more information about tuning and optimizing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Usually, however, no changes are required to the DMA mode of your IDE devices, because in most cases SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 will detect and apply the appropriate settings automatically.
