Like any other multiuser operating system, managing users and groups is one of the key tasks of a Linux administrator. In this chapter, you will learn how to perform these tasks. To make you really understand what happens, I will focus on the way users and groups are stored in configuration files on the Linux server. This chapter will discuss local users only; I won't discuss systems to centralize the storage of users on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. For more on that, see Chapter 17 for more information about the OpenLDAP directory server.
