To create users from the command-line environment, you can take two different approaches. You can use the useradd command to add users; alternatively, it is possible to add users to the relevant configuration files manually. The latter can be useful in an environment where users are added from a custom-made shell script, but usually this is not recommended because an error in the main user configuration files might disable login for all users on your server. In the following sections, I will discuss how to add users from the command line using useradd, how to modify the relevant configuration files for the users, and finally how to add users using YaST.
