xinetd provides access to services that are not used frequently. As such, it is an important service that you are likely to need on your server as well. In this chapter, you also learned how you can deploy tcpd to offer a limited amount of security for services that are started with xinetd. You should not rely on this, though, because the security offered by tcpd applies only to services that are started with xinetd. The iptables firewall offers much security. In the next chapter, you'll learn how to synchronize time on your network using the NTP service.
