The following command will effectively deactivate a user's password, making it so they can no longer log in. All settings and files belonging to the user will remain in-tact: $ sudo passwd -l username
Replace username with the user's username.
To re-enable the account after the errant youngster has paid her/his penance, type the following:
$ sudo password -u username
